From pajamas to performance. Congratulations on an amazing performance to K-12 Western Plains Students.
I just want to say KUDOS to the WP KAY Club for sponsoring such a great project. The "Bobcat Food Drive" has begun! If you would like to donate to this amazing cause, just bring healthy snacks to the office of either school. There will also be a table just inside the doors to the WP auditorium the night of the Christmas program, December 19th. Thanks for keeping our WP kids healthy and well-fed over the holidays!
Christmas spirit week, Christmas Character Day!
Christmas Spirit Week is underway. Today was Tinsel Toe Day.... Bobcats wore their favorite Christmas Socks!
Mrs. Abukhodair's K-1 class took a visit to the school library for some Christmas read-alouds by our very own preschool teacher, Mrs. Tacohua! She takes awesome care of the library when not teaching and brings the joy of reading to all elementary and jr. high students!
By the looks of this large flock of geese, winter is amongst us! Picturing is Mrs. Abukhodair's kindergarten and first grade class.
The K-1 students in Mrs. Abukhodair's classroom, was playing a fun math game, Math Marks the Spot!
A fun math, science, and ELA activity in one! Mrs. Abulhodair's K-1 students learned four types of frogs, the frog life cycle, using a variwty of math skills and played with the frogs afterwards!
Ms. Hawkins' students are learning with all 5 senses. They recently dissected celery stalks which they had set overnight in colored water, to learn more about how plants drink. Then students "mummified" their celery experiments during history study of Ancient Egypt: each embalmed their Pharaoh Celery in salt, wrapped it in cotton strips, and laid pharaoh to rest in a jeweled, golden sarcophagus made by the student. When learning about Egypt's neighbor, Ancient Mesopotamia, students made pop-up Ziggurat brochures and tasted a step pyramid they made out of cake!
South 3rd-grader Rylee Leatherman worried about big sticker patches growing all over the playground, so she decided to spend her recess pulling them up by the roots. Her leadership inspired all of her classmates, who spent their next two recesses weeding the entire area to make it safer for all! South 2nd- and 3rd-graders continue on their own initiative to keep the playground weed free. Ms. Hawkins is very proud of her creative, caring, hardworking Bobcats!
Congratulations to WP South 2nd-grader, Taylee Enlow! She won 3rd prize in the county-wide community Christmas coloring contest sponsored by Ness County News. Taylee loves making art of all kinds, and her entry is displayed at Fitzgerald's Furniture in Ness City.
JUST A REMINDER: The Christmas concert is coming soon! Tuesday, December 19th, at 7:00 p.m., at the WPHS auditorium in Ransom. This is a change from the date on the school calendar. HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE! 🎄❤️♫
Mrs. Tocohua's preschool class has been learning about healthy eating habits and the food pyramid this week. On Monday the students created meal trays and spoke about what foods they had. We took this time to talk about healthy and unhealthy foods. On Wednesday we explored the food pyramid and on Thursday we talked about how we should combine each category in our meals to receive the most benefit. The students ended the week by presenting a category of the food pyramid. We had a yummy learning adventure!

The JH Social Studies class hosted a small mock trial play this Tuesday called “The Mock Trial of the Three Little Pigs”, followed by a surprise gift for Mrs. Casey, the JH Social Studies teacher. The play followed a comedic court trial with the pigs and the wolf, who had burned his feet while climbing down their chimney and sued the three pigs for his injuries.
DON'T FORGET! The Veteran's Day Soup Supper and Concert, Saturday, November 11th, at WPHS! We'll serve supper from 5:00 - 6:45 p.m. On the menu: Chili, chicken and noodles, potato soup, and tomato basil soup, cornbread, crackers, tortilla chips, pickles, celery sticks, carrot sticks, dessert, and tea or water. Everything is HOMEMADE, thanks to Jackie Casey and her FACS students!
We will have a silent auction for these gift baskets: Pamper Yourself, Dog Lover, The Great Outdoors, Snacks, Sports, Teen Date Night, Snoopy Christmas, and Home Grown from Double Bar K Farm. A big thanks goes to our music students and families for your donations to the baskets!
Be sure to stay for our choir concert. It starts at 7:00 p.m., and it features our K-12 choir students and the Hays High Plains Barbershop Chorus. We will also honor our veterans and active military personnel who are in attendance.
