Mr. Flax

During high school, students are pushed to determine what they want to do with their lives after they leave the halls that they have walked in for the past four years. School counselors are oneof the greatest guides for helping students.

Western Plains High School tries to excel by making their students ready for the next chapter in their lives and this year the school officials have hired James Flax as the new counselor to push the students to their greatest potential.

Flax has a great resume that makes him greatly qualified to be the new school counselor. Whenasked about his past work experience in the education field Flax stated, “I have been in education since graduating from college in 1975. I taught P.E., Health, World History, U.S. History, and U.S. Government. Since 1992, I have been a school counselor.”

The position of counselor at Western Plains only required part-time which drew Flax to the
job and also the job is located in Ransom which was an added bonus as it is his hometown. On what he enjoys most about Ransom, Flax commented, “I like the more laid-back lifestyle thatRansom offers, plus I have the opportunity to be around family and friends.”

Flax has enjoyed being a school counselor ever since he started back in 1992. He enjoys guiding students through the process of deciding what they are going to do academically and non-academically post-high school.

Interaction with students is really what Flax enjoys about the job saying, “I love interacting with students in a non-academic environment. We can discuss and dream without worrying about other people’s perceptions of us!”

While at Western Plains Flax hopes to bring pride and enthusiasm to the students. It is very
important to him that while they are in high school they use their time wisely so they are ready
for the next stage of their lives after they graduate.

Superintendent Jeff Jones thinks that with the addition of Flax it will really help the students thrive to their full potential. When asked what Flax will bring to Western Plains Jones remarked, “Mr. Flax brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our school in the counseling field. He is a high energy individual that wants every student to have the greatest opportunities possible and experience their greatest potential both within our school and for the time after graduating from Western Plains. He will bring high expectations and fidelity to our career counseling program while assisting each of our students to seek out the individual opportunities they desire. Our district is very fortunate to have an individual with Mr. Flax’s background to assist us in this capacity.”

All at Western Plains would like to welcome Flax to the district and we look forward to how he
helps our students thrive.
