KAY CLUB works To Create Junior High Club
RANSOM- KAY stands for Kansas Association for Youth. The KAY club is a service-oriented club that is known for their community service and school projects. There has been a KAY club at Western Plains High School for many years but current president Breanna Culver and vice-president Veranise Mendez would like to start a club at the junior high level. Culver and Mendez traveled to WPS in early October to talk with the student body about what starting up a KAY program would mean.
The way KAYs would benefit both the junior high students and the high school program because it would introduce them into being part of something more than them- selves and gain the valuable life lesson on how to be a leader before they even reach high school. Culver commented, “I notice that many freshman this year aren’t really in any clubs and the reason could be because they don’t know what they are.” Anyone can join KAY. Whether or not the club will be formed has not yet been decided but a lot of the junior high students were excitedand enthusiastic about KAY.
