Bob Venters and Nate Burns, from Lane-Scott Electric in Dighton, visited Western Plains South on Monday, November 7th, to discuss electric safety and demonstrate how dangerous electricity can be.  They met with 4th – 8th grades.  Mr. Venters and Mr. Burns demonstrated how dangerous it could be to touch a high line wire using a model of high line pole and a hot wire. We learned that electricity can arc and shock you even if you aren’t touching the ground.   These men discussed ways to save yourself if you are in a dangerous situation involving electricity.  If a high line wire is touching your vehicle, stay in the vehicle.  If you must exit, jump as far as you can away from the vehicle and land on two feet.  They also explained that tires and wooden boards do not provide safety from electricity. We also learned that their equipment must be tested on a regular basis to assure their safety.  Then electricians answered questions that students asked. We would like to thank these men for coming and teaching us about the dangers of electricity.
